# Smart School Councils

> Smart School Councils is a UK education charity (registered charity 1156110) that
> helps primary and secondary schools run a whole-school council every child
> takes part in, rather than an elected committee of a few pupils. Schools hold
> short, structured class meetings where every class discusses the same question,
> votes, and feeds ideas back to a pupil-led team that turns them into action.

Membership is one price for the whole school: £199 + VAT a year, including
training and the online tools. Multi-academy trusts and local authorities get
trust-wide and area-wide dashboards.

## Terms we use

- **Class meeting**: a short, structured discussion held in every class, not a
  committee meeting. This is the core unit of a Smart School Council.
- **Whole-school council**: every pupil takes part, not only elected representatives.
- **Question bank**: a library of discussion questions schools ask their pupils.
